Pittwater is the best place to kayak in Sydney, located within a national park made up of sandy beaches, mangroves, waterfalls and wonderful bush tracks only an hour away from the city! Explore places like Lovett Bay, McCarr’s Creek and Morning Bay in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National park, accessible only by water and really enjoy the best places to kayak in Sydney’s Northern Beaches area.

In just 20 minutes, glide into a secluded cove like Elvina Bay and marvel at how the off shore residents live with beautiful boathouses perched on the very edge of the park. Or cruise down the western foreshore of McCarr’s Creek and check out the sandstone escarpments weathered and sculpted by the currents and wind into beautiful sculptures by the water. It is truly uplifting to see the beautiful gum trees and birds that Sydney is world famous from the water’s edge.

If you’re feeling more adventurous and weather conditions are just right, why not kayak for a half day or full day and pack a picnic lunch. Morning Bay and Portuguese Beach are small, remote sandy beaches offering seclusion and wonderful views of Pittwater that can be kayaked to with a bit more effort. Known only to the locals, these little sandy havens offer privacy and a little piece of Sydney that hasn’t changes in millions of years!!

Paddlecraft offers a wide range of hire kayaks and stand up paddle boards available on a self guided basis for an hour up to a full day. Available both in single and double versions, hire kayaks come in both sit on top and sit in kayak designs. The sit on top kayaks are very stable and easy to get on and off for a quick dip mid paddle! But they are slower going and you do get wetter. The sit in kayaks are faster and come with rudders for steering but they do require flexibility to get in and out of the kayak and they are less stable. Check out our guide here to decide which one you should choose.

Bookings are recommended, especially in the holiday and summer months so Paddlecraft can reserve the kayaks for you or just book online and mention the day and time you want to paddle in the comments section. If you want to make sure that you don’t miss out on anything Pittwater has to offer, then come on one of our very popular half day kayaking and bushwalking tour led by Phil or Helen. Check out our customer’s reviews to see how much they have loved these tours!!
